If a piece of furniture, intended to be shipped by courier, meets the requirements of a standard parcel, then all you need to do is choose the courier that best meets your needs from Ecolet selection.

Remember that the basic condition for the courier to consider a shipment as standard is that the shipment cannot exceed the dimensions and the weigh of 30 kg.

How do I pack my chair for shipment by courier?

You should carefully protect protruding elements, such as armrests, with foam.

Dismantle the legs and pack them separately, remembering to properly secure them with foam and cardboard so that they do not damage the surface when placed on the chair. If the legs are not disassembled, secure them carefully with foam and cardboard. Make sure they do not puncture the packaging, as this may damage your or other shipments.

How do I pack my mattress for courier delivery?

Due to its dimensions, a mattress on a frame is not suitable for shipment by a standard pallet.

Packing the mattress is not difficult, you just need to solidly protect the corners with cardboard and apply an appropriate thickness (minimum 80 microns) foil.

Upholstered surfaces should be additionally protected with cardboard.

If you want, for greater security you can also use bubble wrap and polyurethane foam.

For ensuring the protection and maintaining the integrity of your parcels during transit and handling in the couriers warehouses we recommend you pack your products properly. Fragile itemsshould be wrapped individually using interior protection such as bubble wrap, air cushions, foam padding and high-quality double wall boxes. We also suggest you use “Fragile” and “Up” shipping arrows to warn the personnel how to handle the parcels. 

How to pack a parcel – courier companies’ guidelines

Although the general rules for packing shipments are similar, each courier company has its own rules and packing guidelines. If you’ve already chosen the carrier you want to send your package with, be sure to read the shipping packing tips. Below you will find a summary of the most popular entries. 

DPD courier – how to pack a parcel?

DPD is a popular carrier among Ecolet partners. The most important information about packing for shipping in DPD as standard is as follows:

• the parcel is rectangular in shape
• sum of base circumference (2x length + 2x width) and height (1x) cannot exceed 300 cm
• the longest side cannot exceed 175 cm
• the weight of the parcel with packaging cannot exceed 30 kg.

Fit to Travel – detailed packing instructions for TNT

TNT introduced a very detailed guide on how to pack a package or palletize a shipment. 

If you choose TNT courier, be sure to read the detailed packing instructions. Even the method of taping the package is important. It has to be exactly like the pictures from their presentation. The carrier warned that shipments improperly packed would not be accepted and the payer would be charged for the empty ride.

Delayed deliveries – where do I check the current status of my shipment?

When you want to check the current status of a shipment, you or your customer can do it in the shipment tracking module of Ecolet. The link to the courier tracking system can be found in the main menu of the website.

To check the current status of your shipment all you have to do is enter the waybill number and click the “Search” button.

Our system automatically checks the status of your shipments up to several times per hour.

Unfortunately, we do not have the possibility to provide a phone number directly to the courier who is taking your parcel.

Parts that don’t need to be shipped on a pallet can be sent by standard courier package. At Ecolet you have 6 different courier services to choose from, so you can easily find the best option. 

Remember to pack your courier shipments correctly. This will help you avoid courier surcharges for non-standard shipments.

Once a few simple conditions are met, it is possible and safe

The regulations of some courier companies may prohibit the shipment of alcohol. Does this mean that shipping wine by courier is not possible? Not necessarily. TNT allows the shipment of wine.

Proper packaging of wine for shipment

Wooden box

There is a reason why wooden wine boxes have become popular. A wooden box gives even a simple wine the prestige of a Bordeaux Chateau. For safety reasons, such a box is usually filled with wooden shavings, which effectively immobilize the bottle and protect it from damage.

To be on the safe side, we recommend wrapping the wooden box in bubble wrap or other protective and filling material before packing it in the shipping carton.

A parcel packed this way should arrive at the addressee whole and safe.

To avoid returning the shipment during sorting we suggest to write in the field “shipment contents”: “gift” or other term, without entering the word wine.

Special wine box

Special cartons are available for shipping one or two wines.

Always remember to additionally protect the bottle with a special foam “cushion” or simply wrap it tightly with bubble wrap. Pay special attention to ensure that the bottom and neck of the bottle are well protected.

If you want to send more bottles of wine, use a special cardboard box, made of reinforced cardboard and provided with special dividers. When sending wine in such a carton, remember to secure each bottle. This will further secure the bottles in transit.

How to send wine by courier in the original carton?

The original carton (for example for 6 wines) is not normally intended to be shipped on its own. Such cartons usually travel from the winery to the wholesaler or shop on a pallet. Therefore, if you want to use the original packaging, we suggest adding individual protection for each bottle and placing the original carton in a well-padded, sponge or other stable filler, larger shipping carton.

The regulations of courier companies clearly state that it is prohibited to send food:

• perishable
• requiring special transport conditions, such as temperature control.

And that, in fact, is all the restrictions on food. Perishable foods are, for example:

• raw milk
• fresh dairy products: yoghurt, kefir, cream, fresh cheese, butter
• Fresh fish and shellfish, fish products
• raw meat and offal
• eggs
• raw fruit and vegetables
• cooked fruit and vegetable dishes

How do I prepare food for courier delivery?

Remember that a courier parcel has a hard life in transit. Handling and sorting make the parcel vulnerable to damage. Don’t spare the time and materials to secure the contents of your parcel well.

Pack fragile cookies in a rigid container such as metal.

If possible avoid glass packaging – if you have no other choice carefully protect such packaging with bubble wrap and make sure the parcel is well padded. You may find the following tips from the “Fit to Travel” entry helpful.

Can food be sent abroad by courier?

If you plan to ship to other countries, check the regulations in the recipient country. For example, you are not allowed to send food, including even tinned or processed food, by courier to the UK.

The Safe-Packing Policy – what does it mean?

FedEx are introducing additional packaging guidelines to increase the safety of couriers and the cargo they carry. The Safe-Packing Policy refers to a courier package (parcel or pallet) packed in robust, size-appropriate and secure packaging. It’s nothing new, but make sure you meet all the conditions. Otherwise, the courier will refuse to accept the parcel.

You will meet the The Safe-Packing Policy requirements if:

• You use packaging appropriate to its size and weight
• The packaging is in good condition, without holes, damage, dents, especially on corners and edges
• Fill empty spaces carefully – the contents must not move around in the packaging
• Mark heavy parcels – that is parcels weighing more than 23 kg. 
• H tape the parcel – taping side edges and joint (picture)
• Prepare the waybill and stick it on the upper surface of the parcel. The waybill must not be bent. If necessary, Attach additional information labels (e.g. weight) to the parcel

ATTENTION! Do NOT use any string or lanyard to wrap the package!

The Safe-Packing Policy – tips

Pallets are used to transport courier shipments weighing over 70 kg. Make sure that pallets are in good condition for pallet forklift transport. Avoid the use of chipboard and polystyrene pallets.

Keep these five tips in mind when packing goods on a pallet:

• Place packages or other goods on the pallet so that they form an even, flat and stable structure
• Do not exceed the permitted height (180 cm, including the pallet)
• Nothing may stick out beyond the outline of the pallet
• Secure the goods firmly on the pallet, wrapping them crosswise with binding strips and stretch film
• Prepare a waybill and place it on the side of the pallet (not on top)

When is the shipment Unfit to Travel?

FedEx couriers have the right to refuse your shipment if:

• you use inappropriate packaging – for example, packaging that is too fragile or thin, which risks tearing the parcel in transit
• the packaging is ripped, taped, or crumpled – especially around the edges and corners
• the package is wet or leaking
• the domestic parcel has a total weight of over 70 kg.

Pallet Unfit to Travel

The courier will refuse to accept the pallet if:

• the goods on the pallet protrude beyond its outline
• sharp edges protrude or the goods have sharply pointed corners – it is necessary to thoroughly secure the goods with foam, bubble wrap, or cardboard packaging

If you are preparing shipments for FedEx couriers you need to keep the above recommendations in mind. They are not difficult to meet or unique. Simply pack your parcel carefully according to The Safe-Packing Policy and you will avoid hassle and surcharges. Instead, your package will be delivered safely.
